Nice article, it was informative in helping me decide on whether to use WordPress or not. So far, I am happy with my decision and have implemented a few plug-ins from the WP website, such as Akismet which helps block spam posts and All-in-One SEO Pack, as well as, FeedBurner FeedSmith. I linked to your blog article here: http://globalclosers.net/insider/2008/01/01/happy-new-year-bloggers/

..but the difference with e107 (if I understand correctly) is in hosting on your server. I'm already using expression engine on a different server, and I've installed wordpress on servers, too. However, I started using blogger because 1) easy to use 2) freely available 3) hosted on elsewhere - not on my server 4) easy to template. What I'm trying to decide is whether I want to go back to my own server, where I would indeed, have complete control, or stick with a hosted site (for a lot of different reasons).

I like wordpress.com a lot -- however, look at my poor tag cloud. Just a big mess.
I will say that I seem to be getting more comments and feedback at wordpress.com, which could be an advantage over blogger.

..but if I'm going to pay, well, then maybe I need to go back to my own server first.

thanks matthew. I appreciate your thoughts. In terms of style/theme, in blogger you do have complete control over that (should you want to update it in the future). At wordpress.com, there is a small cost for that functionality. I found blogger to be amazingly easy to use, too, but I really like the wordpress community and I also like the categories. ;-)

I just started a new blog. I chose blogger because I already had a just for fun blog on it. So it was easy to just click a couple buttons and get another one rolling. I figured why worry about it now? New blog, no content. Maybe one day I'll focus on the service, and the themes, and the features. Right now I just want to rant a little. It is very easy to do that with Blogger.
